Find Wedding Dress Fabrics

Find Wedding Dress Fabrics
A Guide to Wedding Dress Fabrics

When looking for your wedding dress, there's a great deal of choice when it comes to fabric - and sometimes it can be overwhelming trying to make a decision, or work out the right fabric for you. Many dresses are made from materials that you wouldn't normally wear for your day-to-day clothes, so it's handy to know what to look for, and the different attributes of each type of fabric. Here's a general guide to wedding dress fabrics and how to wear them:

Taffeta: Taffeta is a popular choice for wedding gowns as it is useful to create structure and shape. A fairly heavy fabric, taffeta has a stiff weave and is made from silk or a silk mix. Great for big gowns and full skirts, taffeta comes in matte or with a slight sheen.

Tulle: Tulle is a slightly stiff, fine net fabric that can be used to add fullness and structure. Made from silk or a silk mix, tulle is light and sheer and is often used to make trains and veils.

Duchess satin: This is a luxurious fabric; smooth and rich. Often chosen for traditional and simple dresses, Duchess satin also combines wonderfully with structured wedding gowns. Made from a heavy silk or silk-rayon blend, this fabric is beautifully glossy and looks expensive.

Chiffon: A classic fabric for wedding dresses, chiffon is a sheer fabric that is usually combined with heavier materials to add detail to wedding gowns, such as cut out sections or sleeves. It can also be used to create layers, underskirts, veils and trains, with its wonderful draping properties.

Silk georgette: This is a light, floaty silk fabric that can be used as a sheer layer over skirts, bodices, as a veil or train. Adding a draping, flowing element to any bridalwear, silk georgette is great for loose-style wedding dresses.

Organza: Organza is much like georgette, except it has a little more body and stiffness, helping to create shape and structure in your dress.

Wedding dress made from taffeta and organza

Italian satin: This fabric is a manmade silk mix that is versatile and resistant to creasing. Great for any style of wedding dress, Italian satin is adaptable and has a smooth, silky finish.

Velvet: Best for winter weddings due to its heaviness, velvet is a sumptuous fabric that can look wonderful with patterns, embroidery or other detailing. Velvet comes in lots of different weights and thicknesses, and can be used creatively to provide both draping and structure.

Find Wedding Dress Fabrics

Don't pass by non-traditional dresses and fabrics, however. Some jersey and simple cotton dresses can be great for summer weddings, with their loose and draping qualities. You can also adapt the fullness of skirts with the addition of underskirts and petticoats, and add to your bridal look with veils and detachable trains.

Whatever fabric you choose for your wedding dress, make sure you take time to feel and try on a variety of dresses to see which is most comfortable and flattering. Some very structured gowns, or those that have in-built corsets, can be very heavy and cumbersome. If you plan on doing lots of dancing at your wedding you might want to consider a second outfit to change into. You also need to take into account what time of year you'll be getting married in - some fabrics are heavier and hotter than others and you don't want to be sweating or freezing on your big day!

Other materials used for wedding dresses include a variety of silks, satins and cottons, and detailing such as pearls, sequins, diamonds, silk flowers and feathers.

Tips For Prom Dress

Tips For Prom Dress
Tips For the Best Prom Dresses

Proms are eagerly awaited by all the high school students and one of the most memorable days for them in their entire life. Proms are when these high school students want to be seen and noticed by members of the other gender. It is also the time when everyone wants to look at their best. Proms are also important because it is the starting point of many relationships. With so much importance hanging on the evening, finding yourself the best prom dresses is one thing you should do.
Tips For Prom Dress

There are many stores where prom dresses are on sale. Some of them even have a discount so you don't have to use up all your pocket money and savings on that one special prom dress. You can find the best prom dresses online too, but the key is to start thinking of it much earlier than the actual day so you could find the best deals and the lowest prices and you are not competing with loads of other high school students looking for the best prom dresses.
Tips For Prom Dress

The color and fitting of the prom dresses is very important too. If you get yourself a prom dress well in advance you will have sufficient time for alterations if that is required. Many people get a prom dress depending on who they are going out with that day. Picking up something that suits from amongst the best prom dresses not only includes the fitting but also the color, especially for girls. A blonde might decide to wear light shade of yellow or pink while a brunette can look stunning in gorgeous satin blue or purple. These could be ankle length or knee length gowns with straps or cup sleeves. Getting the right shade is important but ensuring that the prom dress fits your figure is also very important. If you got a good deal and bought the dress well in advance, you must take note that it might need alteration a few days prior to the prom, because you might have shed some weight or in some cases put on weight.

Tips For Prom Dress

Selecting from the best prom dresses leads you to look for other accessories that suit your dress too. This includes your stilettos and the handbag. You also need to look for earrings and watch or bracelets that match your prom dress. Although, you shop for them individually at the end of the day you want to ensure that they match with each other.

Prom Dress for Your Body Type - Tall and Thin

Prom Dress for Your Body Type - Tall & Thin
Finding the Perfect Prom Dress for Your Body Type - Tall & Thin

Finding the right prom dress is tough enough, but when you're tall and thin, getting the prom dress that will guarantee you are the belle of the ball can sometimes be a daunting task. In this article, we'll go over some easy ways you can accentuate your figure, and find the dress that is going to have you looking your absolute best.
Prom Dress for Your Body Type - Tall & Thin

First, let's make sure you fit my definition of tall and thin. To be considered tall, you are at least 5' 6". As for the thin part, let's say your hips and shoulders are about the same width, you don't really have any visible curves, and your bust is average size.

When you are dress shopping, you have two choices to help you look your best; you can either try to enhance the features you don't have, or you can accentuate the features you do have. Let's explore both options.

Prom Dress for Your Body Type - Tall & Thin

If you really want to get those features you're missing, go for an empire style dress. It will give the appearance of a fuller chest, and by adding detail at the waistline of the dress, you can transform your straight figure into that hourglass figure the guys go crazy for. If you just want to add fullness to your shape, you should consider an A-line dress or some type of ball skirt. Another easy way to add definition to your shape, and break up the long line of your figure would be to buy a dress with patterns or just a lot of details.

Prom Dress for Your Body Type - Tall & Thin

If you're looking to accentuate your features, there are a few options. One would be a sheath dress - it would flow along your slim figure very gracefully. A tight, body skimming dress would give emphasis to your subtle curves, and if you really want to accentuate your long legs (and drive the boys wild) get a dress with a long slit. A few other ways to accentuate your figure would be going with an open neckline, a low V-neck, or a cutout back.

Either way you go, confidence is the key to attracting the opposite sex, so make sure YOU feel sexy in your dress, because that's what is going to shine through your eyes.

Cinderella Prom Dresses

Cinderella Prom Dresses

Cinderella Prom Dresses - Every Girl's Dream Dress

It must be every girls dream to dress up as their favourite fairytale character and recreate that adorable Princess look at their prom by wearing stunning and unforgettable Cinderella prom dresses, never before has a UK trend taken off so well as the prom. Although the US has been holding proms for their last year at school students for as long as I can remember it has never been deemed important over here in the UK.

Times have now changed for the better with students demanding their chance at dressing from head to toe in the finest gowns to celebrate one of the biggest changes in their lives. This has made the demand for Cinderella prom dresses and as the designs become more and more lavish the more girls are wanting them.
Cinderella Prom Dresses

Even from a very young age girls like to dress up and they especially like to wear big puffy dresses and this stays with them right up till their wedding day but now with the prom they get another chance to recreate the Cinderella look.

Proms where thought to originate in the Victorian era when the younger generation was introduced in to the high society community. These parties where very lavish and the girls were dressed from head to toe in fine Cinderella prom dresses mostly made from white silk. The party back then was known as a promenade as the new society members were paraded around the party to meet the older members.
Cinderella Prom Dresses

The US kept this tradition on but cut the name short to prom and instead of just the higher society holding the parties every school would hold one for their last year students. The only part of the Victorian party that was up held was the Cinderella prom dresses and the formality of the event. The US itself had placed certain rules to their prom events and this includes anything from the receiving of a corsage too you must have a date to accompany you.

Cinderella Prom Dresses

Now the UK has placed another twist on the party by binning these American rules, the only part of this Victorian promenade that has been carried down through history is the dressing up in Cinderella prom dresses wearing tiny strappy sandals and feeling like a little Princess.

The best place to find these Cinderella prom dresses is on the internet and browsing through the collections that are now available in the UK.

Unique Vintage Prom Dresses

Unique Vintage Prom Dresses

The Uniqueness of Vintage Prom Dresses

The prom is always on your mind as the end of the school year is fast approaching and girls of course are thinking about the dress they want to wear. If you happen to live in a small town or even a large town, you may still end up wearing the same dress as another girl at the prom. This would of course be the end of the world, or at least a huge embarrassment. The answer is vintage prom dresses. A vintage prom dress will be just as good as a designer gown with all the expense.
Unique Vintage Prom Dresses

Some people may not even consider exactly what vintage means and may only think that vintage is the 80's. The real truth is that vintage clothing can go as far back as the 1920's with the flapper style and can include the hippie days and of course the 80's. The expense can be less expensive or could even be very expensive according to the rarity of the dresses available during that year. You may be able to see if mom has any of her dresses from the 80's or grandmother if you want the 60's or 70's of course, this will depend upon their ages. This way you can get the dress you desire without a huge expense and maybe only have to do a few alterations to have the perfect fit.
Unique Vintage Prom Dresses

The best way to begin your search if you cannot find one in the family is to visit vintage clothing stores, thrift stores, consignment shops, and even use the internet to find online stores that sell vintage clothing. How cool would it be if you and your date arrived dressed in the same era of clothing? Now, that would certainly turn some heads.
Unique Vintage Prom Dresses

If all else fails, you can visit a seamstress, as long as you know what you want. She will not be able to read your mind. Take a photograph of the dress you desire and she may be able to create something as close to the look as possible. Just make sure this is what you want, as you will be paying a hefty price to have your dress created.

Remember this is your prom and finding vintage prom dresses to make a statement will surely make you feel special and will give you a dress that no one else will be wearing. Who knows you may just have all the eyes on you and that would make the night even more memorable.

Wedding Gown Style

Wedding Gown Style

Wedding Gowns With Academy Award Style

The premier fashion event in America each year is the red carpet at the Academy Awards. For fashion lovers, there is no better eye candy than watching the stars make their grand entrance to the Oscars in the latest couture gowns. This can be a great place to get some ideas for your own high-fashion event: your wedding. These are some suggestions on how to choose a wedding gown with Academy Award inspired style.
Wedding Gown Style

Each year there are some wide reaching trends at the Academy Awards, and this year the top fashion trend is asymmetry. Almost every one of the fabulous couture gowns gliding gown the Red Carpet had one shoulder, an asymmetrical strapless neckline, or a cascade of ruffles or draping down one side of the skirt. Very few of the top celebrity looks were completely symmetrical, and those that were came across as unimaginative.

Wedding Gown Style

Happily, there is now great cross-over between bridal and couture designers (in fact, some designers like Vera Wang and Monique Lhuillier do both), so there are many stunning asymmetrical bridal gowns available. Choose a dramatic one shoulder wedding dress for a chic couture look. Or opt for a strapless gown with a fitted bodice flowing into ruffles down one side. Play up the drama of the look with striking crystal bridal jewelry sets and fabulous shoes.

Draping was another huge theme in the celebrity fashions at the Oscars. Very few of the gowns had smooth bodices; most were draped, twisted, or pleated in some way, often with draping that flowed down into the skirt. Brides can find some gorgeous gowns which emulate this style. A soft chiffon with gentle draping and pleating can be used to create a Grecian goddess wedding gown. For a more structured style, a tissue taffeta is fantastic when ruched across the bodice. Look for fabric which has been gathered diagonally for a waist slimming effect. An especially fabulous style is a mermaid bridal gown with a draped bodice which remains fitted through the hips and then explodes into a pouf of fabric just above the knees.

Wedding Gown Style

Beading and metallic accents were another top look on the red carpet. This is a very easy concept for brides to borrow for their attire. The celebrity couture gowns were not beaded in traditional patterns, but rather to create an all-over shimmer effect of scattered crystals. Use this idea as your inspiration for a wedding gown without a defined break between the bodice and skirt; a column or princess seam dress is ideal for embellishing with a scattered crystal design. The best look is to have heavier beading near the top of the gown, graduating into lightly tossed crystals near the hem. Naturally crystal bridal jewelry sets are the perfect accessories for this all-out glamor style.

Your wedding is your one chance to make a grand entrance like a movie star. Why not play it up with a red carpet-worthy bridal gown which is inspired by the glamor and fashion of the Academy Awards. Best of all, at the end of the day, you get to take home the top prize of all: your new husband, which is way better than a gold statue of a man.

Red Wedding Dress

Red Wedding Dress

Daring? Try a Red Wedding Dress

White has not always been the standard for wedding dresses, but it has been for a few centuries now. White and off white is still what most get when they go to buy a wedding dress, but don't think that is what you have to get if you want to get something a little different. Some wedding dresses come in colors like pastel pink, yellow, and even black. Some of the most stunning items on the market today might just be the many varieties of red wedding dress. If you want something different and bold, red may be just what you seek for your special day.
Red Wedding Dress

The red wedding dress is not necessarily new, but many brides are afraid to wear them. For the most part, the ones that do go with red will get a white dress that has red accents on it. That is okay, and is a great look if you want something with a splash of color. On some dresses, the red is the stitching and detail work, and for others there may be a sash or perhaps a red skirt under mountains of white tulle so the red is not overwhelming. These dresses are beautiful, and great choices if you want something different but don't always want to go all the way with red.
Red Wedding Dress

You do not have to be subtle with the red if you do not want to do so. Your imagination may be conjuring up images of a red wedding dress that is not that flattering, but you may be surprised to see what is out there. These do not look like overly fluffed prom gowns. They look very much the part of a wedding dress, but are more bold than the standard white or off white. Most of them are quite stunning. There will be no mistaking the fact that they are wedding dresses.

Red Wedding Dress

If your only concern with choosing from among the many great red wedding dresses out there is what people think, you should not give it much thought. If you are the type to buy a red wedding dress, those that know you and love you should not be the least surprised at your choice. Those that choose red are often bold and forward thinking, two great qualities that those you know already admire in you. They are going to think the red dress for your wedding fits your personality to a tee.

You can have red in your wedding without having to buy a red wedding dress. If you like them, but you feel they are just not what you want, you can always dress your bridesmaids in stunning red dresses. This gives your wedding the same bold look you are looking for while allowing you to wear white or whatever color you feel would be the best for you. While you are out shopping for your dress, try on a few red wedding dresses, even if you think you won't buy one. You may fall in love with one and get it anyway. It'll be a wedding to remember for sure.

Wedding Dresses That Make a Bold Fashion Statement

Many brides are more than happy to wear a classic wedding gown with a fitted bodice and a flowing, fluid skirt. They will look beautiful, but there will be no big surprise for the guests as she floats up the aisle.

For those who want to make more of a fashion statement on their big day, there are some tricks to setting yourself apart. With the right gown, you can be the bride in that fabulous gown that your guests long remember.

Here are some key details that can help your wedding gown make a bold fashion statement.
Bold Fashion Wedding Dresses

The Neckline

Since the first thing people will notice about a bride is her face, the upper torso is a great place to try something different. That means experiment with different necklines. Find one that works well with your bone structure, your hair and your figure:

1.Off the Shoulder: Find a dress with straps that flare off your shoulders. If you want more than a strap, look for cap sleeves that sit just below your shoulders. This wide look will elongate your neck.

2. Strapless: Before you are sure you want to wear a strapless gown, try it on and move around. It may be an incredibly glamorous dress, but if you are constantly pulling it up or looking uncomfortable, there will be no confidence in your demeanor - and you won't make any kind of bold fashion statement.

3. Sweetheart: This heart-shaped bodice is similar to the strapless gown and carries the same pitfalls. It's not a matter of having enough chest area to hold it up - it's having the confidence to wear it.

4. Spaghetti Strap: If you find you lack the confidence to go strapless, spaghetti straps might be the way you can wear that glamorous dress while being confident that it's not going to head south. The straps offer that little bit of insurance some brides need.

5. V-neck: This neckline is a great way to draw all eyes upward. A wedding gown with a fitted, crystal-encrusted V-neckline is one that your guests will remember.

6. Halter: A halter design can be used with several necklines. It pairs well with a shirt collar neckline, as straps on a strapless gown or with a keyhole halter bodice and beaded neckline, which offers a very sophisticated look.

Bold Fashion Wedding Dresses

7. One Shoulder: Now this is a way to make a fashion statement. An especially glamorous one-shoulder silk chiffon wedding dress features a floral layout along the strap and the same matching look along the hemline. Another design made of silk satin chiffon features one strap that forms a cap sleeve over the right shoulder. The bust features a unique cross-draped effect.

The Fabric

Yes, wedding gowns are almost always white or ivory, but that is where the similarities end. Fabrics can range from classics like satin to something more exotic, like Shantung. They can be natural like linen or cotton - or more elaborate:

1. Charmeuse - A lightweight woven satin that comes in polyester or silk.

2. Chiffon - Often used as an overlay fabric, chiffon is French for the word "cloth." It is a lightweight, plain woven sheer fabric. It can be a synthetic material, silk or cotton.

3. Crepe de Chine - A gauzy fabric made of silk or polyester. It can also be made from wool, but that would not be seen in a wedding gown.

4. Faille - Cotton, rayon or silk can be used to weave faille, a woven fabric with a lightly ribbed pattern like grosgrain ribbon.

5. Garza - A soft, natural silk that is often used by couture designers. If it is made of Paris Garza, that is the same silk process created in Paris.

6. Georgette - A slightly sheer fabric that is usually made of silk or polyester. It has a crepe texture. It isn't smooth, but it creates lovely flowing lines.

7. Lace - Among the most delicate and traditional fabrics for wedding gowns.

8. Linen - This fabric is not commonly used in wedding gowns because it lacks sheen. Made from the fibers of the flax plant, linen is one the coolest and most breathable fabrics.

Bold Fashion Wedding Dresses

9. Mikado - A heavy, blended silk that can create a crisper look than 100 percent silk.

10. Satin - A tightly woven fabric, with varying degrees of sheen on one side.

11. Shantung - This used to be called raw, or natural silk, and it has a nub to the grain of the fabric.

12. Silk - This fabric comes from silkworm cocoons that are woven into a rich, lustrous fabric that can be dramatically draped.

13. Taffeta - A smooth, crisp fabric that comes in different varieties: matte taffeta, satin-backed taffeta, double satin-faced taffeta and moiré taffeta.

The Silhouette

Most people are aware of the more common silhouettes used, like empire, A-line and ball gown. But if you want to make a fashion statement, consider going with a less-often used outline such as the fit-to-flare trumpet shape, which is fitted from the bust to mid-calf, where it flares out. Another choice might be the corset waist, which has a snug, bodice-fitting corset top that fits to your hips. Boning is used as an embellishment. It's somewhat bold, but that is what some brides are looking for.

Discover Why You Want to Choose Gold Bridesmaid Dresses!

Planning a wedding is not easy. Everything has to be synchronized and blended. Generally weddings have different themes and styles. A bridesmaid plays a very important role in a wedding. She is the best woman at the wedding. She represents the bride by being her maid of honor. So, it is essential that the bridesmaid looks stunning. The subtle hint here is that the bridesmaid should look pretty, but should be dressed in such a way that she enhances the bride, meaning she underplays her beauty and looks subtle, yet beautiful and poignant when she stands next to the bride.

Gold bridesmaid dresses are in as they signify boldness and beauty. If the bride is having an Egyptian, Moroccan style wedding, then gold bridesmaid dresses will just add to the entire look. Also, a wedding in a chapel or church can call for bridesmaids in golden dresses. However, it is also advisable that beach and pool side weddings do not qualify for gold bridesmaid dresses. There are various reasons as to why you should choose a gold bridesmaid dress.

Gold is a very lovely and unique color. It has a shimmer quality about it and it is the color for girls in the age bracket of 18-26, as they can carry the color very easily and with elegance. Gold is not the color everyone can wear, so if you have a lovely tan or a bronzed body, then make the use of this opportunity and opt for a beautiful gold gown with interesting cuts. However, these days there are various shades of gold such as dull gold, metallic gold, copper gold, etc., so unleash the bling factor in you and opt for this lovely color.

If the wedding is in spring or summer, then pastel shades of gold are ideal as the bright sun will enhance the gold and it will not look over the top. Opt for it with a slick bun and if the wedding is in autumn or winter, then gold is the prefect color, as you will not have the dazzling gold summer sun, but you will at least have dazzling bridesmaids in gold. The flower girls enter before the bride, so they need to be showy and wear bright colors. Where as bridesmaid enter after the bride, so they should underplay and keep it to the minimum, however they should create a beautiful picture. Gold bridesmaid dresses look subtle and suit every personality type.

Gold is one color that looks subtle yet creates a beautiful impact. Also, if the bride is blonde or redhead, shimmering gold dresses will create a postcard perfect picture. Also, since a person can have many bridesmaids, each can have a unique figure or different taste which can give rise to clashing, as it is aptly said to each its own. So, it is very important that everyone tries and agrees on wearing the same/similar dress in different shades of the same color. And, last but not the least, shower all your support to the bride and make her d-day a fairytale by being her fairies!
